Where to stay
Well, this depends on what you want to see and do while visiting. Downtown LA is reasonably priced, has a great nightlife, but is a long way from the beach. Hollywood is a safe place to stay and is near the Walk of Fame. However, your best bet is to head online and find somewhere that suits your budget and destination ideas.
How to get around the city
The public transport system is tourist friendly, so as long as you know where you are going, you can get across the city easily. Renting a car is an option, but if you don’t know the area very well, you could get lost. If you’re going to LA with friends, your best option may be hiring a minibus with the LA Charter Bus Company, as they can drop you off and pick you up anywhere. There’s a lot to see in LA, so you don’t want to spend most of your time dazed and confused with no idea where you are!
What to do when you’re there
Lovers of sand and sea should head down to Venice Beach. However, there’s more to do than lying in the sun all day. So, go with the flow on the boardwalk, have a game of volleyball, and check out the hunks showing off their hot bods at Muscle Beach which is a short block away.
You may never make it as a Hollywood movie star, but you can still dress like a celebrity as you walk around town. And you can literally see the ‘stars’ paved into the concrete of the Hollywood Walk of Fame! The famed Hollywood sign is also a must-see for movie buffs. As is the Hollywood Experience, which will take you behind the scenes of your favourite movies.
Then, whether you’re a movie geek or not, you should still make time for Universal Studios, which is a fantastic movie-based theme park with incredibly immersive rides. Ever wanted to see inside the mouth of a dinosaur? Now you can!
Looking to educate yourself? Then brush up on your paintings at the Getty Museum, and if you still haven’t seen the stars, visit the Griffith Observatory. Looking through a giant telescope, you won’t be able to miss them, though only the ones in the sky.
And finally, be like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and shop in style on Rodeo Drive. Though you may need to be content with window shopping as some of these upscale fashion boutiques are pretty expensive.
