This Canada Day, I’m switching things up on a classic fashion staple. Over the years, we’ve seen denim-on-denim (this might be the most memorable) take reign as a timeless trend. But it’s time for the Canadian tuxedo to move over! I’ve got something else in mind: leopard print. As if that’s not always on my mind, but whatever.
My inspiration came from none other than Canadian queen, Shania Twain, in the “That Don’t Impress Me Much” video. Has anyone slayed as much in head-to-toe leopard since?! (Well, except me, but not to be conceited.) Shania is the epitome of leopard chic in this video. And that definitely impresses me.
However, all-over prints aren’t always as stylish as this. When it works it can look fierce as hell, but there’s still a continuing debate about whether leopard print is terrific or terrible. I decided to do some research of my own and found ten celebs that agree with my stance on leopard print.
Happy 150th birthday Canada! Here’s my 2017 version of the Canadian tuxedo.
Move Over Canadian Tuxedo! Ten Times Canadian Celebs Slayed in Leopard Print
1. Shania Twain
It’s safe to say that out of all Canadians wearing leopard print, Shania Twain takes the crown. She’s been rocking leopard print since the 90s and she doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. She’s back at it again in 2017 looking as fabulous as ever in leopard print on her album cover for her first studio album in almost 15 years, Shania Now.
Drake wore an Opening Ceremony leopard print shirt to the Jay-Z and Lebron James “Two Kings” dinner in L.A. and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this print look so classy on a guy! The tan sport jacket adds just the right amount of subtlety to the bold look.
3. Kim Cattrall
Slay Kim, slay! This leopard print outfit is just another reason why I’m obsessed with Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrell. She was known to wear a few leopard print pieces on the show too.
4. Justin Bieber
The Biebs is actually a huge fan of leopard print. He’s been spotted wearing leopard print hoodies, bomber jackets, t-shirts, crossbody bags and more. Get this: he even has a leopard print car! A little overboard? Perhaps.
5. Celine Dion
Celine isn’t nearly as leopard obsessed as Justin Bieber but she does manage to pull off a subtle version of the print with this Celine purse. Side note: I really, really want this bag.
6. Rachel McAdams
A tonal leopard print is the best way for pattern-shy people to rock this fierce trend. You still get the fun element of animal prints but with a more subtle approach – like Rachel McAdams with this white leopard print sweater.
7. Malin Akerman
Although Malin was born in Sweden, she was raised in Toronto and that counts as a Canadian celeb for me! Loving how she used leopard print to add a pop of pattern to her LBD.
8. Nina Dobrev
This Marc by Marc Jacobs trench is such a fun way to update leopard style! The vibrant pink makes the print more youthful and teen-friendly too.
9. Pamela Anderson
Pam Anderson does 50s chic with this leopard print dress. I love how she paired the bold dress with sleek black accessories and a timeless red lip.
10. Elisha Cuthbert
Dolce & Gabbana are one of the best designers doing leopard print. Apparently Elisha Cuthbert thinks so too! Loving the update on the classic print with this green silk version.
