Looking for a vacation with a twist? Many of us are. It can be very easy to fall into a comfort trap when it comes to vacations. A lot of people tend to visit the same place repeatedly just because they know it has served them well in the past. Have you ever thought of a mountain getaway?

Vacations cost a lot of money so it’s only natural to want to make sure that we get it right. After all, we’ve all heard horror stories of people who have booked hotels and resorts that turn out to be nothing like the pictures. But sometimes, stepping out of your vacation comfort zone can be incredibly rewarding.

One kind of destination that you’ve probably never thought of is a mountainous region. Usually we look for sun sea and sand on our annual getaway, but here are three reasons why you should consider a mountain getaway for your next vacation.

The stunning views

There aren’t many places in the world that are as breathtaking as an alpine wonderland. Huge snow capped peaks, dense evergreen forests and a whole array of flora and fauna to admire. One of the truly beautiful things about mountain resorts are how they can put things in perspective for many people.

The sheer size of many mountains can easily dwarf the towns, resorts and people who dwell between them, and that can easily be awe-inspiring. There really is nothing like waking up to a view of hills, rivers and clear sky as far as the eye can see. Make sure you take your camera with you as you are going to want to capture every sight you see!

The activities on offer

While many people do come to the mountains to simply take some time out and relax, there are also plenty of activities on offer for those of us who require a little more entertainment. As one might expect there are a whole hoard of outdoor activities on offer, no matter what level of physical activity you are capable of. Hiking, skiing, rock-climbing, even golf… most of these things are available to you at mountain resorts, all set among a stunning backdrop.

Most alpine towns are also equipped with all the usual things you might expect at any tourist destination, such as museums and a fine selection of museums and bars. After all those busy days, you will probably be tired, so it’s lucky that alpine resorts offer some of the best accommodation out there, such as gatlinburg cabin rentals.

It’s an opportunity to relax

Think about it: in your busy city life, how many opportunities do you truly get to wind down and switch off? If you have a massage once a month but you still find yourself checking your emails throughout it, no, you’re not doing it right!

Coming to the mountains is a great way to treat your mind, body and soul. The remote location will have you feeling more at one with nature than ever. Meaning that the hectic rush of the city is nothing more than a distant memory! That’s the perfect way to enjoy a mountain getaway.

My coworkers and I have been trying to think of a fun work trip that we could do, and we didn’t think about going up into the mountains. I agree that it really would be a great opportunity to wind down and get away from the busy city life. I will have to suggest it to the group and see what they think. Thank you for the idea!
