The Pros & Cons of Part-Time Blogging

The Pros & Cons of Part-Time Blogging | The Lady-like Leopard Blog by Melina Morry

Part-time blogging definitely has its pros and cons. It’s not all bad, but it sometimes isn’t all that good either. I’ve been blogging part-time for the past five years, and so far, I love it. However, I’ve been wanting to make the move to full-time blogging more and more lately. There’s nothing wrong with having a full-time, nine-to-five job (hell, I have one) but there’s just something so rewarding about creating your own content and being your own boss.

Sure, I love strutting into the office in a two-piece power suit, iced coffee in one hand and confidence in the other. But I’d much rather be strutting into my office for The Lady-like Leopard blog. Can you imagine? Leopard print everywhere! It’ll be a dream come true. For now, here’s my take on the pros and cons of part-time blogging.

The Pros & Cons of Part-Time Blogging

Pro: Blogging gets to stay fun

When I’m only blogging half of the time, it gets to stay fun. Of course, I’m not saying that people who blog full-time don’t find it fun. What I mean is that it gets to stay a hobby that I do because I enjoy it, not because I’m relying on it to make an income. That’s the goal one day, but for now I’m just blogging as a side hustle.

Con: There’s not enough time in the day

Between working a 9-5 job, freelancing and writing The Lady-like Leopard, things can get pretty overwhelming. If only I could cancel out the office job and put all of my effort into blogging! Well, that’s the goal. And writing a novel. Or two. But for now it gets to be my (mostly) stress-free, creative outlet.

Pro: You’re not consumed by your blog

I get it, you are your brand and I definitely am mine. But I never want my blog to consume every part of my life. You know, there actually are days where I don’t want to wear leopard print (yes, believe it) and I just want to go out with no makeup on and not take any photos. It’s nice to forget about the blog for a bit and just enjoy the moment.

Con: You have to miss some fierce events

When an event invite is from 8-10am or 2-4pm, you’ll have to count me out. Not because I don’t want to be there, but because I have to be somewhere else: the office. Sometimes I’m able to sneak out to a media preview on my lunch break, but it’s usually a huge rush. Well, depending on where the location is!

Pro: You get really good at multi-tasking

Part-time blogging makes you really good at multitasking and even better at project management. And if you’re able to do that, you’re able to maybe get as much content created as a full-time blogger. It’s a lot of work though! If I’m late on a blog post, I’ll get up early before work to write and then continue on my lunch break. You’ve got to put in the dedication if you want anything to pay off.

Con: You’re (sometimes) not as well known

If you’re not able to make it to all the blogger events or hang out with your other full-time blogging fashionistas, then sometimes you’re just not as recognizable. Part-time blogging can sometimes mean part-time exposure, but as I said before, you just have to put in the work to succeed.

What are your thoughts on part-time blogging?

I’ve got to agree with all the points you raised in this post! I blog part time, as well as being a full-time student and I also work part-time, so, it is definitely a struggle to balance it all. However, what I love about the blogging aspect if my life is that it give me a chance to escape from my hectic schedule!
    Loved this post girl!
