What can you do to make a change in the world? For women making differences, this question comes up a lot. However, you may have the mindset that you can’t do very much. After all, you’re just one person. You might raise the question:

  • What could I do?
  • How do I do it?
  • Why not choose somebody else?

Or you might think:

  • That you aren’t good enough
  • You don’t have the time
  • Where do you start?
Regardless of these doubts, you can be one of the many women making differences in the world.

All you have to do is put your mind to it. You don’t have to take gigantic leaps. You don’t have to follow the example of the Arizona Secretary of State and move into politics. Furthermore, you don’t have to take on a life-changing career, such as teaching or nursing.

After all, you don’t have to don a superhero’s cape to make a difference to the lives of others! The only thing you need to do is rule out your hesitations.

You can make a difference in both large and small ways, following the examples of the fearless women who came before you. You see, one woman can make a difference, and it may be time you started.

Smile at somebody else

Whether it’s somebody you know or a complete stranger. Your smile may make all the difference to their day, especially if they are feeling down.

Respect the people you meet during the day

A kind word, an act of kindness, a level of politeness, and a generous attitude, are all positive acts that can affect somebody else’s life for the better.

Help somebody in distress

Maybe someone is stuck at the supermarket till with the wrong change? Or they just look sad and upset. Or maybe somebody else is hurting them in some way. Go out of your way to help! Offer to pay for someone’s shopping, give that shoulder of support and concern, and if you need to call for help to protect another person, then do so.

Lead by example

Whether it’s in front of your kids, people at work, or complete strangers, do something that promotes a positive attitude. If you can inspire somebody else, even if it’s by just doing something as simple as sharing a kind word or gesture, you may encourage others to follow your good behaviour.

Volunteer for a local cause

Feeding the homeless, picking up litter, looking after children, caring for the elderly—there are bound to be loads of volunteer groups in your locality, and by joining something close to your heart, you can make a difference to many.

Take a stand

If something angers you, don’t sit back and do nothing about it. Think about the issues you care about, find ways to share your voice, and then take action. Speak out at community meetings, write a letter to your local newspaper, share the issue through your blog or social media, and let as many people know as possible about the things you care about.

Can you be part of the women making differences today? The answer is yes! Whether you simply smile at another human being, or take up political office, you can do things both large and small. A superhero cape is entirely optional.
