Cheetah, Ocelot, Jaguar & Leopard Print: How to Spot the Difference

Wild Cat Prints — Spot the Difference Between Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar & Ocelot | The Lady-like Leopard

It’s a common misconception that everything caramel, brown, black & spotted is leopard print. It’s not. Although cheetah, jaguar, leopard & other wild cat prints look similar, they’re not all the same. However, they usually all get grouped under the same umbrella: leopard print.

So, here’s how to spot the difference between these 5 wild cat spots!

Wild Cat Prints: How to Spot the
Difference Between Cheetah, Ocelot, Jaguar & Leopard

Cheetah

Cheetah is the easiest of the wild cat prints to tell apart from the others. Their spots are small, black and pretty equally spaced out. Yet, I see cheetah print being labelled as leopard print all the time! It’s shocking since if you take a closer look, it doesn’t resemble a leopard’s spots at all.

Ocelot

I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know what this animal was. This print can also look a lot like the clouded leopard’s spots. Their pattern looks like a leopard or jaguar, but as if they’ve been spread and stretched way out. It’s like an elongated leopard.

Leopard

Of course, this one is my all time favourite. Although, all wild cat prints are my favourite when it really comes down to it. Leopard spots are sort of shaped like a horseshoe or circle and have a slightly darker colour inside them than the rest of their fur. These spots are the king of all animal prints!

Jaguar

Jaguar spots get confused for leopard print quite a bit. Even I call it leopard print most of the time! However, it’s a larger version of the leopard’s fierce spots and one of the most common of the wild cat prints. An easy way to spot the difference is by checking if the horseshoes/circles are filled with other smaller spots.

Tiger

There’s little to no chance that you’re going to confuse this one with the others, but I prefer to list things in odd numbers. So, here is number five: tiger print. Obviously the stripes are enough to set it apart.
