5 Canadian Designers I’d Like to See Take a Walk On The Wild (Cat) Side

Canadian Fashion Designers Get Fierce | The Lady-like Leopard blog

As I was researching a list of Canadian fashion designers who had used leopard, zebra or tiger prints in their latest collections, I made a shocking discovery. None of them did. Not even a single snakeskin coat or a leopard print belt. What was going on?

After a more thorough investigation, I started to see a pattern between the designs. Canadian fashion designers love to keep things simple, minimalist & clean. And while I’m all for a strong silhouette in a stark white palette, I’m also an animal print lover.

I’m obsessed with supporting local fashion. From attending fashion week in Toronto to wearing locally designed outfits, Canadian fashion designers are always fiercely clawing their way into my heart. However, I’d like to propose a wild idea: a statement leopard, zebra, serpent or tiger print to finesse their collections.

Here are five designers I’d like to see get wild and send some fierce prints down the runway.

Sid Neigum

A master of cool textures and striking silhouettes, Sid Neigum’s designs are already fierce. Although, I can just imagine wearing either one of these pieces (the skirt or the top) with something leopard print. At least with Sid’s designs, since they’re already deliciously minimal, they can easily be paired with any animal print.

First of all, these wide leg pants are fucking fabulous! However, just imagine if they also came in a snakeskin pattern. That would be so fierce. Actually, when I first saw them I thought it was snakeskin. So, essentially, that means it’s meant to be.

Beaufille

Beaufille epitomizes everything I love about being timeless with a modern edge. With this look, I’d love to see a serpent or leopard print belt being wrapped around to add a ferocious feel to the minimalistic approach. As with Sid Neigum’s simple design aesthetic, Beaufille creates a clean palette that’s free to wildly accessorize.

Maram

One things I’ve noticed about Maram—they do not shy away from bold colours and patterns. So, where are the animal prints? Their latest collection was detailed with polka dots, sequins, florals and stripes. However, one of their most recent instagram photos was of two tigers with the caption “PRE-SS19.” Does this mean we can expect something wild next season? Here’s hoping.

Again, Markoo doesn’t shy away from eye-catching fabrics either. Houndstooth, checkered and caged patterns can all be found throughout their collections. Yet, no animal prints. True, they do focus a lot on intricate design details—but that doesn’t mean a knotted crop top can’t roar at the same time!

Which designers are you wishing to see create some animal printed looks? Tweet me and let me know. Stay fierce, mwah!
