I was in such a pinch for time getting to Day Two of Toronto Men’s Fashion Week. You should have seen me – jumping into my metallic mules on the sidewalk, frantically hailing a cab and jogging into the College Park doors in my gold snakeskin print outfit by Hilary MacMillan. It was probably quite a sight. Luckily, the show was running behind schedule and I didn’t miss a second of the HD Homme collection.
I took Ryan (The Leopard Cub) to Hilary MacMillan’s downtown studio earlier that day to pick out a couple looks for TOM*FW. She had a fabulous time running around the studio checking out all the beautiful garments Hilary is currently working on, excitedly yelling “What about this one? How about this one?” She ended up helping me choose 3 looks – one of which I wore tonight.
I also wore my furry Jeremy Scott coat but it was like a sauna in there so I couldn’t keep it on for too long! What I really wish I wore was the fur and black leather trench coat HD Homme sent down the runway. My Face Of Australia painted lips fell wide open when that number came down the runway (scroll down for photos).
Since starting HD Homme in 2012, Hussein Dhalla has yet to design a collection I’m not extremely fond of. His clothes never fail to ooze elegance and class – something menswear has been lacking in recent years. I loved the use of head to toe black while mixing in different textures and patterns, breaking up the dark hue. The looks were extremely well put together from the accessories like hats and bags to the fur trims and leather accents. Although this collection wasn’t specifically meant to be gender neutral, I can definitely see myself rocking a few of these pieces.
