When looking for clothes that exude a particular elegance and luxury, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are the experts. Their fashion line, The Row was established in 2006 and has since gone on to gain recognition for producing “fine fabrics and the perfect fit”. The inspiration for the mature line came from the sisters’ fascination with London’s historic Savile Row.
Savile Row is a notorious street in London known for being the originators in fine tailoring. The billionaire empire sisters have made a name for themselves in the fashion industry – setting themselves apart from their child star success. Proving to be industry leaders, The Council of Fashion Designers of America named the sisters as Womenswear Designers of The Year in 2012 and Accessories Designers of the Year this year.
Amongst the ready-to-wear fashions in their luxury brand, is the infamous alligator snack backpack, priced at $39,000. The black leather backpack is made from Nile crocodiles and completely sold out in the American department store, Barneys in 2012. The sisters make no mistake for incorporating animal skin in many of their designs, which further contributes to that feel of luxury.
The Row makes luxury items but make no mistake in thinking only royalty can wear these designs. The Moto Stretch-Leather skinny pants are no exception. These pants are expertly cut and fitting for a sexier, sophisticated look. These pants give off a “rocker-chic edge” to a woman’s ordinary wardrobe. The interesting thing about these skinny pants is that they make a convenient replacement for jeans when a quick and easy dress-up look is desired.
Another piece from The Row is an ivory school boy jacket made from wool. The two-button short jacket with notched lapels and welt pockets completes a classic or edgy look, suitable for the workplace or evening cocktails.
The designer sisters seem to have no plan of slowing down, with already many other fashion labels under their belt, such as a contemporary line called Elizabeth and James and a t-shirt line for Style Mint. If you’re in the Toronto area, the Moto Stretch-Leather skinny pants can be found at Holt Renfrew and TNT.
