On Sunday afternoon my friend Stephan (of the blog Why I Love Toronto) and I ventured out to Eglinton West for our friend Kristen’s charity event supporting the Pink Ribbon Society of Grenada. It was held at Amorphous Salon and there were designers, jewellery makers and make-up artists on site to teach, create and show off their amazing talents. There was also a candy station and pink lemonade! (I had quite a lot of both. Oops.)
It felt really good to be able to give my support to such a great charity. I think anyone who gives back to people feels that same feeling of kindness. It feels good to know that in some little way you’re helping out someone who perhaps needs it more than you.
Most of you probably don’t know this – I’m pretty private when it comes to these matters – but someone very close to me was recently diagnosed with cancer. It’s been an extremely difficult situation but I think it’s made me realize how important it is to give back, to tell people you love them and to look for the positives in every situation.
Here are some ways fellow fashionistas can give back to charity too.
HOW TO | Give back to charity and look fabulous while doing it
1. Donate your clothes to a organization that sells clothing for charitable profits or that gives your clothes to people in need.
2. If you don’t have any clothes to donate, try shopping at thrift stores where a portion of the proceeds (or all the proceeds) go to charity instead of shopping a regular vintage shop.
3. Attend charity benefits. You can have a cocktail, delicious appies and feel great that your ticket money went to a great charity.
Ps. I got my outfit from a thrift store for a total of $10. Don’t forget to send me your trendy & thrifty outfits so I can feature them on The Lady-like Leopard too.
